MADRID — The armed Basque separatist group ETA, under pressure from political allies to renounce violence and decapitated repeatedly by the arrests of its leaders, announced another cease-fire Sunday, suggesting it might turn to a political process in its quest for an independent homeland.
But the Basque regional government immediately dismissed the announcement as meaningless because ETA failed to renounce violence or announce its dissolution.

WASHINGTON — Seeking ways to spur economic growth ahead of the November elections, President Barack Obama will ask Congress to increase and permanently extend research and development tax credits for businesses, a White House official said Sunday.
Obama will outline the $100 billion proposal during a speech on the economy Wednesday in Cleveland, the official said. The announcement is expected to be the first in a series of new measures Obama will propose this fall as the administration looks to jump-start an economy that the president himself has said isn't growing fast enough.

AP/ Huffington Post -- MIAMI -- Republican Marco Rubio has placed his Florida Senate campaign on hold temporarily following the death of his father. Mario Rubio passed away Saturday night after a long battle with emphysema and lung cancer, the Rubio campaign said in a statement today. He was 83.
"He was by far the most unselfish person I have ever known, always focused on others, and never on his own well being. He was especially determined to provide his children opportunities he himself never had," Rubio said in a statement.
The candidate was forced Friday to cancel a debate with Democrat Kendrick Meek on "Meet the Press" because of his father's declining condition. Meek extended his condolences, saying political differences took a back seat to caring for family.

Within a couple of seconds of sitting down at my PC on Saturday I realised something was badly wrong, and since Google has been my browser home page for the past decade, it was dead easy to spot the guilty party: Google. To be specific, Google's Buckyballs celebration doodle was consuming 100% of my CPU. Closing and reopening IE8 showed that Google was consuming 50% of my CPU with a single browser window open, and two windows took it back to 100%. Firefox and Chrome also showed excessive CPU use, as did a Mac.
